The challenge

As part of Nottingham City Council’s footpath maintenance programme, the council wanted to improve accessibility, usability and visitor experience by creating a new footpath around Colwick Country Park. They asked Trust to come on board, taking responsibility for project delivery – from stakeholder liaison and design input to project management, construction and reinstatement.

The role we played

Our team took a collaborative approach, finding practical solutions to project challenges. This included creating stable, durable foundations in boggy ground conditions that weren’t suitable for standard construction. The park is full of wildlife, so we took care to minimise environmental impact. It’s also a busy public space, so we carefully coordinated works to limit disruption, prioritise safety and keep the park open – including communicating clearly with park users.

The impact we made

We successfully completed the project on time and on budget, creating a high-quality new footpath that enhances the park’s infrastructure. It’s made a positive impact on visitor experience, improving accessibility and supporting recreational activities for the local community.

“We’d like to thank Carl and his crew most sincerely for a job well done! They appeared in the park in late 2022… and started off our excellent relationship by digging up the start line! With the exception of that one cancellation they have worked tirelessly to make sure we could proceed safely every week and kept us informed every step of the way… It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with them over the past ten months and to see their smiley faces around the park. We’re really going to miss them. Bravo fellas!”
