The challenge

Nottingham City Council wanted to widen the existing footpath along Porchester Road in Mapperley, and they asked Trust to deliver the project under our highways resource contract. The work involved installing a new kerb line and replacing the existing base and surface, creating a new, improved footway with better access for the public.

The role we played

We sent a skilled civil engineering team to widen and reconstruct the footpath, giving the council a high-quality finish in line with their project requirements. Porchester Road is a busy part of the city, with high volumes of traffic and pedestrians adding complexity to the project. To overcome this, we carefully coordinated works and managed the site, putting traffic and pedestrian controls in place to keep everyone working and moving safely. Clear communication and organisation on site also helped minimise disruption and keep the project on track.

The impact we made

We made really efficient progress, completing the footpath well under budget. We also finished a month ahead of schedule, significantly reducing disruption to the public. Our site team engaged with the community and had lots of positive interactions with both stakeholders and the public. This included children from the local nursery, who came out to chat, look at our machines and bring us drinks. The finished path has improved safety and accessibility for the whole community.

“Carl and his team have been a huge asset on Porchester. They’ve completed everything that has been asked of them on time and to a high standard. Communication has been excellent from the start, and it’s been a genuine pleasure working with them.”
