Derby fibre (FTTP) network build
Project name: Derby fibre to the premises (FTTP) network build
Client name: CityFibre
Location: Mapperley, Nottingham
Date: April 2024 - August 2025
Value: £5m
The challenge
CityFibre wanted to deliver a full fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network across Derby, enhancing the city’s digital infrastructure and providing homes and businesses with reliable, high-speed broadband. Trust acted as the project’s build partner, responsible for planning, managing and delivering the network infrastructure across multiple areas of the city. We were brought in to take over from a previous contractor, having had proven success on similar schemes in other cities.
The role we played
We rose to the challenge by re-establishing project control, with improved planning, coordination and delivery strategies to get work back on track. From there, we carried out excavation, duct and fibre installation, and full reinstatement at each site, maximising the use of existing infrastructure to reduce disruption. We also engaged with the community, managed traffic and coordinated with existing utilities, enabling the project to run safely and efficiently in a busy urban setting.
The impact we made
We took a structured, proactive approach from the start, stabilising the project by working closely with the client, local authority and other stakeholders. As a result, work was successfully completed in line with the project’s revised timeline – improving the community’s access to high-speed broadband and supporting the city’s economic growth.
