The challenge
This CityFibre project set out to deliver a full fibre-to-the-premises network across Newark-on-Trent. Serving 12,000 properties, the project’s goal was to improve digital connectivity and support faster, more reliable broadband for local residents and businesses. We acted as build partner, taking on planning, management and delivery of the full network infrastructure.
The role we played
Our work involved the large-scale excavation, installation and reinstatement of over 20km of trench work in a busy urban environment, with high levels of traffic and existing utilities. We used a range of deployment techniques, carefully coordinating with the local authority, utility providers and the public to make sure everything ran safely and efficiently. Our team also minimised excavation and disruption by setting up physical infrastructure access (PIA) agreements with Openreach, so we could use their existing telecoms infrastructure wherever possible.
The impact we made
At every stage, we worked closely with stakeholders, partners and the local community, coordinating works and minimising disruption to residents and businesses. This collaborative approach meant we completed the project on time, under budget, giving Newark a high-quality full-fibre network and a better broadband service for thousands of people.
